It’s been six years since Ace Combat 7 released, and if you thought it was about time for a new game, so did Bandai Namco. Announced as part of The Game Awards on December 11, the company revealed Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve. The flight-shooting game is planned to arrive in 2026 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The announcement trailer for Ace Combat 8–seen below–gives a glimpse at the game’s campaign mode. Players will assume the role of a stellar pilot in the world of Strangereal, who’s brought on board an aircraft carrier. The story plays out from a first-person perspective, and the action will stay arcade-inspired, according to Bandai Namco.
As for Ace Combat’s multiplayer, Bandai Namco is keeping those cards close to its chest for the time-being. The developer is Project Aces for Ace Combat 8, and Unreal Engine 5 is powering the new entry in the flight-shooting franchise.
The Ace Combat series has now been around for 30 years, dating all the way back to the original PlayStation. It’s been on all manner of platforms since then, including handheld devices, and Ace Combat 7 eventually released on Nintendo Switch.
